WHAT IS DISTRICT COOLING?

District cooling is a sustainable solution for building air conditioning. It supplies chilled water for cooling industrial, commercial, and residential buildings through a closed-loop piping network. This system replaces conventional individual air conditioning units with a solution that is more efficient, safer, and more sustainable.

From a technical standpoint, district cooling operates in a similar way to district heating. Waste heat can be converted into chilled water using absorption chillers, which is then distributed through pre-insulated district cooling pipes.

The use of pre-insulated piping systems by ECOLINE and ECOTECH ensures stable fluid temperatures and delivers a system efficiency up to 5–10 times higher than conventional cooling systems.

HOW IT WORKS

The system is based on a network of pre-insulated piping systems that transports low-temperature chilled water from the production plant to the connected buildings.
Chilled water can be produced in several ways:

  • using electric or turbine-driven chillers,

  • through hot water absorption chillers,

  • by harnessing natural sources such as seawater or groundwater.

Inside the buildings, chilled water flows through district cooling piping systems and exchanges heat with the internal distribution system, providing efficient air conditioning without the need for standalone air conditioning units or compressors.

This approach reduces electricity consumption, lowers operating costs, and improves the overall environmental sustainability of the system.
